We're delighted to share with you the results of our second annual survey of professional pension trustees – The BWD DE&I Index 2024.

This year, we extended our survey beyond trustees at the 10 biggest professional trustee firms (“the Big 10”) to include all accredited trustees - including those who operate on their own (“Sole Traders”) – and compared our findings between these groups and against The Pension Regulator ("TPR")’s own workforce.

Key findings:

  • 49 is the average age of trustees at the Big 10 (compared to 64 for Sole Traders).
  • 10% of trustees at the Big 10 are not of white origin (compared to 18% for the national population).
  • 51% of trustees at the Big 10 are female in 2024 (up from 38% last year).
  • 'Governance' has overtaken 'Actuarial' as the most common background of professional trustees.
