AI, Data, and the New Record-Keeping Dilemma

Last week in London, I had some fascinating conversations about how banks are trying to balance AI innovation with regulatory record-keeping.

When you think about it, every new AI tool being trialled in financial services has a data challenge at its core.

Who owns the data?
Where does it live?
And, perhaps most importantly, how do you record and evidence decisions made by or with AI?

As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply embedded in risk, compliance, and advisory workflows, legal teams are being asked to interpret regulations that were never designed with this technology in mind.

Record-keeping is no longer just a governance exercise. It’s becoming a regulatory flashpoint.

I’ll be exploring this further at an upcoming roundtable, where I’ll bring together senior legal leaders to unpack the real-world challenges facing financial institutions.

If your team is currently grappling with how to govern AI-generated data or record AI-driven decisions, I’d love to hear from you.
